If you examine the list a bit more closely, you'll know what I mean. Anyway, that person has one very rich *friend* (in p2p, that is)

Anyway, LIVEFRMNYC, copying an album/movie is piracy, unless it is for yourself.

Yeah it could have been legit... except the adobe photoshop CS2 and
microsoft office 2007 enterprise made it pretty obvious.

It is actually piracy, you are not allowed to redistribute software you licensed. If he gets it from his friend, if this friend really exists, it's piracy.

Let's see, why don't you borrow your friend's photoshop cs2 and call adobe to activate the copy and tell them, no I didn't buy it, but I took it from my friend's house and try to install it on my machine. Now if you don't mind, I am very busy, activate it now and see if they will activate it for you.

I compare giving a friend a copy of any licensed software to J-walking in NYC.

People have dubbed VHS movie tapes & Music cassette tapes for friends for decades, and no record company or Movie company complained. Only complaits were about bootleggers. Before the Filesharing internet days.

If I can buy a Video Game and use it, then give it to a friend afterwards. Then why can't I do the same with software.

I understand that mass sharing on is completly wrong, but what gets transfered to family or friend such be of no one elses bussiness.

Whats the future going to be like, install a chip inside us so you and only you can use a certain software, machine, car, etc: etc: ?

and I don't care what any EULA or fineprint says, I know from experience that just because it's in writing doesn't mean it will hold up in court or that it's actually legal.

This "thats priacy" theroy has gone to far.

Most items Physical or Virtual that we buy, we also lets other use, borrow, or give to them.

Actually, its illegal. No record company and movie company complains because they'll lose more money finding every single user of piracy than the money they'll actually get back from you.

And, actually it is technically illegal to install a computer game in two computers or so, its just no one enforces it because its a waste of money and pointless.

But still, it IS illegal technically.

Actually, the record and movie companies haven't been complaining, they've been suing under the DMCA. For downloaded music. That's actually traceable thanks to digital life. They have no way of proving who made the cassette tape you have of your friend's AC/DC album.

So, it's potentially possible that some small software developer who feels they're losing money to bootleg copies or shared copies of their software in violation of the EULA may come after the infringers. However, at this point, it is not settled whether EULAs are enforceable in the United States.

But after many years in the legal field, I wouldn't want to be the one to find out.

    Yup, torrent is piracy.

If your friend gave you a stolen car, you think you won't get pulled over if you drive it.

Thanks for your list "HP FAN" for those of us that might want to try them.

 bet you never thought the thread would lead the way that it did, HUH. ;)

loved the Napster community in the late 1990's but many MP3 files were iffy. Torrent sites are clearer with no clicks & pops ( thanks LIVEFRMNYC btw  )

Okay first of all... torrent is NOT piracy, downloading illegal material is. Not even download... uploading is illegal, if you get it off someone else, only they can get in trouble.

    Not true..

    I quote from RIAA.com:

I don't know where the common misconception came from that only uploading is a copyright violation, and not downloading....
