i just got the blue screen of death for the first time. i was going to play Spellforce: The Order of Dawn when out of nowhere i see the dreaded BSOD. this happened less than a second after clicking on the icon. it gave a stop error with the following codes(0x00000008, 0x8014B000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). the first thing it said was to run a memory check, how? next it said to disable any newly installed hardware/drivers and software. i haven't installed any new hardware unless a virtual drive counts and i dont have any new drivers. the newest software i have is the comodo firewall to replace ZA. what do i do?:confused2: :confused2: :confused2:![]()

google for memtest 86+ and run that, might be corrupt ram. There always is the possibility though that it was a freak occurrence and you will never see it again, so let us know if it keeps happening
-
i downloaded memtest86+ from the official site (.iso) but there is nothing in the archive within the archive. what now?
-
i have gotten four more BSODs with Driver_Power_Fault errors. i still havent figured out how to run memtest.
-
you need to burn memtest with something like infrarecorder then boot from it using the bootable CD it creates.
-
Check the Best Free Software thread for good .iso burners. Links are provided.

dvd decrypter is my favorite, and it's 100% free.

i ran memtest and came back with no errors. i should mention that i was informed of two causes of the blue screens: Vista and Intel PRO/Wireless LAN Adapter. the update that would correct Vista didn't apply to my system and i updated the driver for the adapter. i really appreciate your help guys.

i honestly have no idea if it is fixed or not. i will let you know if anything happens.
-
alright, but from what you said you might want to try updating your wireless drivers from intel's site
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go!
that link is for XP home drivers, if you have vista or XP pro you will have to search around on their site for them (dont worry, its not hard)
-
i just got another BSOD with the cause being the adapter. i have already updated the driver. i would use windows update but that gives me an error code 80070422. i had this error before and fixed it but it decided to rear its ugly head again. oh and it was a Driver_Power_State_Failure or something like that.
-
hmmm.. you might have faulty hardware but i cant be 100% sure. Try calling the support line for the manufacturers of your laptop and see what they have to say, unless anyone else here has anything to say about it.
-
i have vista home premium. i have checked HP's website, if that is what you mean by manufacturer, but didnt find anything. i should also mention that Problems and Solutions gives me two solutions: one of which i have already done(adapter driver) and the other doesnt apply to my system(vista update). i get these solutions after every blue screen but they are useless as i have already did them with the aforementioned results.
i have had my laptop for less than a year and i have gotten six BSODs within the past couple of weeks one being a Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area and the others deal with the Driver_Power_State_Failure. i am beginning to worry. -
yeah, i recommend calling HP's service number, see what they have to say, sounds like hardware issues to me.
-
i have gone a week without a BSOD. an HP Update window popped up on screen so i ran that and it had an update to resolve a potential security threat. i guess that stopped the BSODs so im glad thats over. and i fixed my windows update problem as i had the module installer service disabled. thanks for all your help guys. make of this what you will.
-
kind of a weird problem if you ask me, but im glad its over (for now
)
my first BSOD
