So I'm trying to fix my friends laptop. I restored the computer with his original recovery discs that came with it. I took the disc, popped it in the computer, restarted it and pressed F12, I booted from disc and everything went fine until it completed. It showed some error and the computer shut off. I didn't even get a chance to see what the error was. So I powered the computer back on and now it just says BOOTMGR is missing Ctl/Alt/Del to restart. I restart and same thing again. I even try again to boot from the recovery disc and as soon as I select the option cd/dvd to boot from it immediately goes to the same BOOTMGR is missing screen. I even tried another recovery disc that I had and nothing. Also tried a fresh version of Windows 7 and nothing. I constantly am getting same BOOTMGR screen. Please help

Wild left-field guess - does this system have any sort of flash memory installed for Readyboost? Could be a USB dongle or a flash card in a SD slot.

I've had similar odd things happen when there was a Readyboost flash disk and the PC's boot order was set to try the flash before the hard drive or CD.

Yeah, and if ^^ doesn't work, try the 'Repair my computer' option in the Windows installation disc. I use that to undo GRUB (bootloader) when I'm done using Linux on my computer.
