    need good hdd recovery program

    my old hdd stop working, so i bought a new one, however id still like to recover the files from the old hdd - windows recognizes the old hdd but it wants me to reformat it before i can enter

    if anyone can recommend any hdd recovery program, that is good and free id really appreciate it

    I'd cry if there were a program able to do this, as I formatted my hardrive after months of not being able to access it. There wen't 800GB of Photo's/Music/Movies/Games. :(

    If it is a hardware failure, as in bad sectors etc .. then you can just forget it.

    but with no hw failure just win vista just erased part of the hdd it should not have?

    you'll have a better chance of getting good help if you're honest about what happened, no matter how embarrassing it may be

    'erased what it should not have' without a corresponding hardware failure just doesn't happen.
