ok well i took physics this year, and the textbook is about 1,000 pages, and i have about 4 textbooks to lug around so i got the physics textbook on a cd.
so my prolem is is that it wont let me copy the writing. it would make it alot easier if i could quote the book, where i know the answer but i just dont want to rewrite it.
it has a security lock on it that doesnt allow me to edit it, copy etc to the document.
so is there anyway around this? another program or another way to do this?
thanks.

ok just to go into it further, i can actually highlight the writing, so its not a picture. i just cant copy the writing because of security settings, so i dont know why they are on there

there are some tools around on the web for removing pdf restrictions, but I am not sure if I can mention them here on NBR, mate
because I remember there is something in the forum rules that prevents users from discussing / mentioning any software restriction removal things or similar.. you know what I mean?? but if there is a way, I am sure you will know soon...
By the way, well, did you try with any other pdf reader??? *just thinking* or you could try one of the free pdf reader / edit software's... -

i tried a free version, but it did the same thing, im gonna look around because i have alot of copying from the book to do and i dont want to rewrite it
edit; thanks, i think i found something, i just needed that keyword to search ( removing pdf restrictions)i tried nearly every other keyword

another thing you could try is converting them to word doc.. there are some pdf to word doc converters, No??? I remember there are some... though I have seen sometimes the formating is lost, but since you want just the text, you could try this.... cant remember a name right off my mind now... but I have used one before and it worked well for getting the texts out *though I am not sure if it would work for restricted files*

If you can highlight, can you copy (shift/delete or edit/copy) and then paste (shift/insert or edit/paste) into a Notepad or Word document?
-
make a backup of the pdf in another folder or whatever, before you mess with it
Oh yeah, probably he tried to copy from either the pdf options or right clicking mouse... Hey there OP, did you try what John suggested???

yea i tried copying and everything. i could highlight it but couldnt copy it. i now can, (im so happy)
i found a trial program but just needed it for this document.
so i did try copying it, but it didnt work, i also tried opening it in wordpad but it didnt work.
so i can now open the document, print it (as i couldnt before) and copy the text. i still cant write in it or delete the words, but i dont need to
thanks fondue, rep + and john -
and just to make a note, you tried 'opening the pdf' in wordpad?? I dont think it would work.. or if you understood my comment on converting the pdf into doc format in this way, I didn't mean like that..
I meant there are software specifically for converting pdf files into doc..anyways
no need for all that mess now
Cheers and.......... study well

Alternatively, you could use FoxIT or PDF-XChange Viewer (the two I have used), or one of the others. There's quite a list here. -
