I have a 300GB primary partition on a completely fresh install of Win7 and apparently Windows has scattered the files far and wide becasue even after defragging twice I am only able to shink the partition by 150GB using Disk Manager. That means that Windows' 11GB of files are spread across 150GB of hard drive, which seems excessive.

Is there a trick to forcing Windows to pull its files together? If not, will some third party disk management software be able to get me a new partition of more than 150GB? I hope so, because I really don't want to have to re-format, re-install and reconfigure Windows.

Well you could try the free program Smart Defrag from IObit.com and do a deep optimize, then use EASEUS Partition Master 4.1.1 Home Edition. It's a free disk partitioning utility.
