so i just bought an m17x r3 (new to PC gaming and didn't want to go all out) that has a 128gb ssd and a 500gb hdd but no operating system. i want to install windows 7(have the disk and key) on the ssd and have the hdd for file system storage. i know a decent amount about the software once its up and running but not much about BIOS settings and what settings i need to have it on. so the question is mainly what settings should the drives be on for the os to go on the ssd and the file system to be on the hdd. thanks in advance

Bios needs to be set to legacy boot, and the drives formatted to the usual NFTS file system. The boot drive needs to be set to MBR, and not GPT. All of this can be done during setup.

If you want to be able to use the laptop without the HDD in it at any time, or replacing the SSD at some point, you need to have the HDD removed during installation and the put it back afterwards.
Windows will possibly need both drives to boot otherwise.
