You can't get free software. Welcome to DRM. Have you tried contacting HP for support with their software?

I just went ahead and bought Arcsoft Total Media Theatre. Got an online coupon via google search so the final price was $80 total. Blu-ray = expensive :(

HP Quickplay only allows you to recognize blu-ray disks when being inserted, not playing them, at least not all of them.

Blu-ray playback, as in OP, requires a paying player software like PowerDVD.

    cheers ...

Yeah but I used to play Blu Ray with HP Quickplay (later called HP DVD play) in vista... This is pretty ridiculous, its almost 2010. They had a free native player in vista but now with 7 they want you spend $100 on 3rd party software? Huh? Outrageous.
