Which one do you prefer and why? I'm going to buy one of them soon. I heard nod32 uses much less resources than KAV, but in detail how much and what exactly (i.e. hard drive, svchost.exe, startup, memory)?

I have no experience with NOD32. I use AVG ( http://free.grisoft.com ) to good effect. Why pay for one when you can get good antivirus for free? I don't even run mine in real-time scanning mode, I just scan files as I download them if I want to run them. Good surfing habits (use Firefox and a firewall, scan everything you download, limit JavaScript and Java's permissions, etc.) and not downloading dodgy software (ie, game hacks and warez) will protect you from 99.9% of everything out there.

Well, I haven't used KAV, so I can only say that I really like NOD32. Right now it's using up only 25 MB of system resources, so there's no slowdown because of it. Also, it updates virus definitions at least one a day, so it's good to know that it's always current.

NOD32 and KAV are pretty much equal scanners. NOD32 is faster, lighter and more efficient. KAV however is considered more accurate, updates more relaibly (NOD32 updates randomly; somettimes none for a few days, other times multiple updates on a single day) and is also a strong contender. It is really preference which determines whether one is better than the other because both are excellent products. Personally, I liked NOD32, since you can also use the Kaspersky online scanner to replace KAV.

NOD32 is also $10 less (just for the AV); though with Kaspersky you can get a whole suite if you're willing to dish out more cash.

I personally don't really have problems with viruses, so I prefer a lighter AV like NOD32

hmm i think nod32 is the way to go. kaspersky is way too intrusive and says all these random things are trojans. i mean come on! i guess it's good for safety reasons, but its not like i'm running a company or anything :) i like how light nod32 is. it's great!

I have KIS 6.0 on my laptop and Kerio+nod32+ lots of free anti-spyware programs on my desktop. Both serve their purposes well.

    - I configured each automatic update to run every hour for both. I get a lot of popups from nod32 eveyr hour saying that I have the latest virus definitions. As for KAV, it just silently updates.
    - I really can't find much difference.

Righteo I have the same habit; thats why I've hardly never had any viruses detected (unless the data was from another storage media).

Their both the same to me. Better go with the cheaper one. You wont go wrong with either.

i personally prefer NOD32. Most of the reasons have already been listed, but i was blown away by how good it is.

Only thing: NOD isn't really user friendly, unless you 1) know what you are doing or 2) read the online tutorial to set up NOD.

    the tutorial makes it simple.

    I would go with NOD
