Hi everybody,
I am an experienced user and I have been using Xp for over 8 years or so.When I did a clean format and installed Windows 7 Ultimate I was not satisfied.First of all it runs slower,a clean xp gives always a better performance.I didn't like the bars on windows 7 and the themes that come pre-installed,they just look childish.I didn't like the essential program needs, like the 7 doesn't come with Movie Maker, which is a must.It can be downloaded of course easly, but I didn't find it logical. The game performances are usually same but I recognized on 7,I get 3-5 fps lower performance, also it asks to share internet connection when connected to internet which is rubbish.I can't waste my time setting that on 7.Some programs and drivers and not compatible with 7,and I didn't like the driver organizement thing in 7.It is better to install manually.I also didn't like the aero shake or peek because they keep rising the gpu temperture and they are not usefull, just for show off.I also didn't like the copying file process of 7 it was inaccurate,xp is usually better at it.So microsoft tried to make a os easy to use which lookes good but I didn't like it because I can set the settings manually,I hate when the system asks to share internet, close tabs or open a program.Windows 7 also loads way many services during startup which I dont need. This is what I think about Windows 7.Xp is the way better.

OHMIGOD! I have been happily using Windows 7 for more than a year now, first with the beta, then the RC, and then the RTM.
But now after reading your post I realize how stupid I have been and am going to go home tonight and wipe out my harddrive and reinstall a 10-year-old operating system! -
You contradict yourself quite a few times in that rant. You hate the many services (whatever they may be) and the fact that Windows 7 is slower (which it isn't), but you also hate the fact that programs aren't preloaded on it (Movie Maker, not by any means an "essential program"). You believe things like driver organization and settings should be set manually, but you also want operating systems to be "easy to use" while at the same time deriding UI improvements such as Aero. Finally, a few of you points don't make any sense (what is "inaccurate" file copying or internet sharing?).
If you honestly prefer using XP, then stick with it. It doesn't make a dent of a difference to the rest of us, and if it helps you compute faster and better, more power to you. -
There isn't anything we can do here. Like any "experienced" computer user, we are going to stick with what we are comfortable with. So best you dust off that XP disk.

It's time to upgrade your 8 year old computer hardware or get a new computer.

If you are running Windows 7 on an 8 year old NB, then of course it is going to slog along. For one the RAM required to run the OS is too much for the available hardware of that day.

Windows XP is a piece of trash. It keeps crashing! Long life Windows 2000!
I can't believe we already are 9 years over that. -
What a shame, im disappointed that your unable to have the same fluent experience that other and myself are having the absolutely-fantastic-slick OS that Microsoft has bestowed to us. I hope Win8 or whatever will be able to fill your needs.

Windows 8 is supposed to be pretentious crap from what "demo's" i've seen of a prototype on YouTube, looking like Mac OS'es and using "cloud computing", what trash...

Please don't be offended.I just opened this topic to share my opinions,as a matter of fact,it is possible for some people to not like windows 7
but xp is always like my best friend. -
The issues you describe are similar to the criticism XP received when first released. The theme was cartoonish, didn't include Movie Maker, had a mess of services (such as Messenger), didn't play nice with some older Win98 machines and had several UI differences from previous operating systems. Over time service packs & various updates were released correcting issues. It wasn't until SP2 came out that I ditched 2000 permanently.
Also keep in mind that 8 years on the same system means you're accustomed to the style. It may take some time adjusting to the UI differences or learning to enable the classic features. I keep my theme as Windows Classic and turn off all visual effects (except smooth font and thumbnails). It took a month before it became as comfortable as XP.
Perhaps you'll like it better in a few years. Microsoft will surely release updates improving things customers don't like.
I'm curious about the computer, though. What make and model is it? I find that Windows 7 has no noticeable loss of performance on my machines. In fact, it seems a bit faster when browsing the web. -
edit:
It was the same complaints when XP first came out. Just a matter of preference v performance. -
For me Microsoft got pretty everything right with Windows 7 that bugged the crap out of me with Vista. For me Vista was a love/hate relationship. Too many things turned me off about Vista whereas I have not had 1 thing bother me about W7 other than it's move and replace command.
I will sometimes try and merge a folder of the same name with an existing folder and sometimes not all of the files copy over even if you select the box for all instances. Was an issue with Vista as well.
The OS is snappy quick even more so than with XP SP3. -
not satisfied with Windows 7
