I've no idea - as you said, nothing shows up on google (other than this conversation, and, if I just search on "ofmudld" I get a chinese webpage (which looks like an aggregator) as well.

Do you have a hex editor? Were it me, I'd find the little bugger and run it through a hex editor (or just a simple hex viewer) to see if anything popped out that gave me any further clues.

Something like this. Basically, it's a utility app that allows you to view the contents of a binary file in hexadecimal format (which is a little easier to read than decimal or, heaven forbid, raw binary) and also generates the ASCII equivalent for each byte, which will reveal anything in the file that was coded as plain text.

So, for example, in most Win executables, there will be some sort of copyright info down at the end of the file that, if present, could indicate who wrote your mystery code.

right it has now happened 3 more times since posting this message and im still no where near close to figuring out what it is and why it keeps crashing - anyone else experience this?

i have no idea how to use a hex editor so im not going to go messing with something thatim not sure how to use

Sorry for a statement of the obvious but can you find it in your filesystem, startup or services? I think I would make every effort to remove it from my system if I were unable to determine what it does. I would be especially suspicious if it is a hidden file. Good luck...

Do a complete virus and malware scan. Check services.msc and msconfig. Review any applications/hardware you have recently installed to see if that might be a part of an install program.

Oh-hoh! That sounds like an infection! Type out the batch file to see what it says.

Right-click on the BAT file, select "Edit" then copy the info and paste it here. Or if you want to, zip the BAT and the EXE, I'll PM you my e-mail and you can send me that zip and I'll check the files for you.
