first download the info file and then the vista tweak file. The info file contains a list of things that will be done when you double click the vistatweak file. This should speed up your vista experience albeit in perhaps a small way. Be warned I will not be personally responsible for any damage this may cause, although i have used it on my own computers and it has worked fine. Please post comments on your experience with this!
i will soon add to this reg file to change what services startup etc.

ummm how do we know this is not a virus
and isn't this against the rules of these forums -
just trust me lol this has been discussed on the windows tweak sticky at the top of this forum
i am a frequent poster! -
pls don't double post!!!!!
-
dont worry just deleted the other 1!
-
thanx but i trust my own hands a bit more))
-
just wanted to update this thread, to get as much feedback as possible!
-
Unfortunately, I don't think many people are going to bite on this without a list of things the flie changes. Most people on this forum are too knowledgeable to trust something like this without a more detailed explanation.
-
the list of changes is included in the download but i suppose i'll post them here:
it will:
Removes tooltips
Reduces time before killing services
Reduces menu lag
Turns UAC off
Stops low disk space checks
disables the NTFS habit of creating 8.3 versions of filenames for backward compatibility
reduces the number of windows displayed by flip3d to speed it up
increase max ie downloads to 5
removes the option of using the web service to find the necessary program to open a file
disables autorun
if this is at all successful i will post a second reg file with the following tweaks:
changes start menu to classic mode
removes system sounds
removes recent documents menu
kills tasks automatically at shutdown
disables notification area balloon tips- saves some cpu
stops saving of settings at shutdown -
i might try it in virtual pc -
do you think i'll have more success making a complete guide?
-
I do all this using Mz Vista 1.8
kthxbye.......
this is old and this thread is a waste....
and ur second tweak that u were gonna post is not a tweak! it's disabling everything! who the hell would wanna do that? -
whats wrong with removing system sounds? how would that disable anything?
if you don't like the reg file i created - dont use it. Some people however want a tweaking solution that where they wont have to e.g. type if they want low or high caching for their optical drives. The file i created requires no user input, + some tweaks that i may include may not be included in the program vista force ( or any other program for that matter). If you do not like it a simple 'yes' or 'no' would be sufficient! -
To his credit, jisaac recognized that many people were following the Tweaking Guide that I have done work on. He though it may help people to have an automated program for many of the tasks, an idea which has its merit, a great deal of merit if he can do it properly actually.
The downfall of MZ (and I swear by AutoMZ but wouldn't recommend it) is that it has a downside to some users who experience not so pleasant results.
I think an automatic program which changes your system to classic menu and automatically disables sound might be a bit touchy though.
jisaac....walk through each of the threads and see which you can encorporate into an automatic program or a manual program where people can check off there choices in a menu box.
As this is touted as the best tweaking thread available, the program has alot of promise. -
Isn't Winbubble suppose to tweak most of those settings? I don't use Winbubble myself since I prefer to understand the tweaks and apply them myself, but I do see the advantage of a program that applys the registry settings without actually having to deal with the registry. I could port the tweaks listed here into a simple checkbox program that users can apply by selecting what they want. However, if you know how to do windows GUI programming, I'll leave it up to you. Let me know if you need help.

so has anybody downloaded this yet and tested it?
-
A UI would be very useful, as people who are willing to use this would be able to choose which operations to carry and which not to, in addition to making the entire thing user friendly. It is useless to more experienced users, since they would have tweaked Vista to their liking already. -
yep i agree with you, but i think it would be useful to anyone (even experienced users) who have perhaps just installed a new os, as it will do everything for you quickly and efficiently without wasting your time!
-
lol with all the tweaks man your better off recommending XP. you turn off too much. i applaud you for trying but then your approach is not alright. user interface would help as well as details like what have u tested it on and stuff. kinda lame to just burst in the forums. EY 2kb download to set everything off right here in vista! lol makes it much better
good luck tho. -
i do recommend xp but i love the vista ui too much lol. considering i've just turned 16 you'll forgive me for bursting in an' all! but anyway the only thing you'd actually notice is no more uac and no more autorun. I've been receiving some suggestions on the tweak sticky at the top of this forum on what people would like to see in the program i will (hopefully) be building which will enable the user to check which tweaks they want
-
I still see some value to your idea, but if you provide an UI with checking boxes with some few words about the impact of doing so, then I will try it certainly.
-
its a good idea, but i think people want to know what exactly it is doing, before they download it
-
His idea is related to the sticker about windows tweaks, everything is there.
-
check the sticky to see what i've done so far
-
What is your method to compile all the tweaks? (programming language)
-
c++ initially but im thinking maybe a java based program may be easier.....
i'm sorta stuck lol -does anyone know some good programming forums? -
You can easily do it in C#. There are example tutorials if you search google.

I still think that your GUI version needs the four buttons I mentioned in the other thread. (BTW you really should direct all traffic on this project to this thread and NOT continue to add to the thread Les started.)
1. Make the selected changes.
2. Undo the selected changes.
3. Create a registry update file to implement the selected changes.
4. Create a registry update file to undo the selected changes.
In your descriptions, you should also include the possible downsides to the tweaks. For example, there is a big potential downside to turning off UAC if you have used Vista for a while with it turned on. This downside is related to the virtualization of the "Program Files" folder and the registry. Turning off UAC will make some entries in these two places disappear. It will cause saved games for example to appear to have vanished. That's just one of the symptoms. For some apps the users settings will disappear. These things are not permanently lost, mind you. If you turn UAC back on they will reappear. But this side effect has given more than one user a near heart attack. You should warn folks that this can occur.
Personally I don't agree with the notion of turning off UAC, but if folks want to do this they should know the possible consequences. Les and I talked about this at length and he added a note to his tweak thread about this.
