I suck at trying to explain things, but I'll give it a shot. DOS is barely an operating system which could be used today... It only has one user, no multi-tasking and is all command. While Windows 7 includes a lovely GUI (Graphical User Interface) and allows you to do so much more.

    (Told you I suck!)

buy whatever is cheaper and if you choose DOS install OS which code you already have (from broken laptops or just old laptop which you won't use.)

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that. ;)

For example, if you choose DOS, you can go onto Amazon or whatever and buy an OEM copy, however, it will be locked to your system.

Guess one wonders why the OP wants to go back to the 60's in operating systems. Dbase3 maybe?

80's and early 90's ;) . OP could be needing something like multiuser DR-DOS for a point of sales system or HVAC controller. or may need MS-DOS for running or porting legacy applications. we recently had DOS 6.22 on a system to recover 20 year old corperate data from 80MB tapes. Just because its Old dont mean its dead

go look in hopsitals and large buildings with complex HVAC systems .... DOS and UNIX everywhere

To the OP if you know how to setup multiboots its not an issue.

    just for fun
