Not sure if anyone can help me out here (as its not just windows related) but i´m looking for a way to use my own ftp as the storage space for syncing over the cloud. Something like dropbox but using my own ftp server. Should work on windows & android to sync music, notes, documents,...

So i need a software that:

support syncing over the cloud for android & windows with serveral different files.

    Thanks :)

Have you got some sort of hosting or do you want something that's like Dropbox where you can go to a site and sign up?

As for the software, WinSCP or FileZilla will do. I use both of them to upload to my web host.

you could set up a home based ftp server... then from there you could use software such as goodsync to set up a task to sync every xx minutes/hours... but if you want to do it on the free side.. you could use microsofts home sync (i forgot the official name) you use a computer you have at home to be the master server and your clients sync to that

seems to me that every single ISP out there offers password protected FTP space as well as 'web space'.

there are plenty (!!) of ftp synchronizers and even a few that mimic drive letters.

what kind of protocols do you think the so-called cloud providers use?

goodsync can do it based on a schedule... just set it to check every x minutes or hours.... now for android that is a different story... there is no real syncing apps for it... but the way the dropbox app works is by allowing you to manually pull down files to your phone and then reupload them ... there are a few ftp clients for android so you could do something with that
