Is there a way of putting passwords on folders and word documents?

passwords on word docs thru word i believe ("protect document") -

on word, goto tools-->options-->security. enter a password, and press okay. It will ask you to enter your password again for verification purposes.
on folders, I don't think you can set a password. I know you can make them hidden or read only by right clicking on the folder, then selecting security & sharing.
