On mac there is an application called caffeine. it stops the system from going to sleep or hibernate during long operations. it works great. I did find a caffeine for windows app with the same name except the windows version doesnt seem to work on windows 7. the system still goes to sleep when doing things like long copy operations. just curious if anyone knew any alternatives.

    I do!

Change all the settings so you use the balanced powerplan, and if you need no sleep, change it to high performance and set high performance so the computer never goes to sleep, just turns off the display. So essentaially make "Balanced" what you use all the time, go in and change settings if you need to get it to "High performance" and then change "High performance" so the system doesn't sleep.

Easy peasy. ;) No need for an app.

EDIT: Or I suppose you can just Create a power plan. Forgot that that option was available.

Disable Sleep Mode in the power options control panel?

I know of a few Media Players that disable sleep while playing music, just mute it.

Click on the power icon in the task bar.
There you can set up different profiles, so lets say you configure one with sleep mode and one without.

Thats my solution and it doesent require third party software.
