    I have always hated Adobe Reader mostly because it was always calling home but I didnt really know of many alternatives until all the news on these forums (as Im new :D)
    I saw many people recommend Foxit, I downloaded it, tried it and loved it.
    But I always did enjoy the ability to open up the files in my web browser which adobe reader did do.
    So I am curious, is it possible to stop Adobe Reader to stop calling home? I know that if you go to the Adobe folder and delete the folder called Updater 5.0 then it will not be able to check for updates, does this also stop it from calling home?

    I am probably paranoid but its not the paranoia that I am trying to fix :p

    What are you asking here?

    Do you want foxit to be able to display pdf files in the web browser instead of downloading?

    OR

    Do you want to remove adobe reader?

    Sorry for the confusion, basically what I would like is to be able to open Foxit Reader in the webbrowser like adobe reader did or if that doesnt work, is it possible to install both adobe reader and foxit (while using foxit as main pdf reader and only reader in webbrowser without calling home)

    There is a foxit firefox addon which lets you choose either to display the pdf (AS HTML) in the browser or download it as you would normally.

    Get it here

    =======================================================

    As for the adobe updater thing, press start >> all programs >> startup folder >> delete the adobe updater entry.

    Also type in run or the start menu search if running vista "msconfig.exe" go to startup tab and uncheck any entry that says adobe update or similar.

    ========================================================

    For using adobe to view files in firefox only then try this

    1. Close Firefox.

    2. Open the Adobe Reader installation folder. This can be done by using Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader, assuming Reader 8 is installed in the default location.

    3. Open the Browser sub-folder inside the Adobe Reader installation folder.

    4. Copy the nppdf32.dll file to the Firefox plugins folder: Right-click the file and then click Copy from the context menu. Then use Windows Explorer to navigate to your Firefox installation's plugins folder (usually C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins). Then go to the Edit menu and click Paste.

    5. Open Firefox and in the address bar type about : plugins (about : plugins is one word, use no spaces) to bring up the Firefox plugins list.

    6. Look for the Adobe Acrobat entry.

    If the entry is there, try to view a PDF. If it opens in the browser window, the problem is solved. If not, follow the next set of troubleshooting instructions.

    Yea its not official, I just found it whilst trying to reply to this thread. Tried it and the HTML seemed slow but didn't get any ads or such.

    No probs
