Seems my budget is not going to be able to pay for a high-resolution notebook, so I wanted to know how painful it was to work on a low-res screen.

Not that painful, I would imagine anything at or around 7 megapixels would be fine, more than that and it becomes slightly more painful for every megapixel.

I'll admit to not doing anything more than dabbling in photo-editing. My wife, however, is a professional who, thanks to our limited budget, has to work on extremely low-resolution screens whenever she works from home (we're talking 1024x768 here). For me, given the fact that I only rarely get to work with even a 1280x1024 screen, a 1280x800 screen is beautiful for photo-editing. Having worked on a 1920x1200 screen a few times, however, I can say that, while the lower resolution might slow down the photo-editing process somewhat, it is by no means painful.

Thanks for the help guys. Makes me feel a little more comfortable about getting a laptop on a limited budget.
