ok well i bought a toshiba x300 from bestbuy. im going to return it to bestbuy but i want all of my files off of it and bring it back to the original setup procedure.

it didnt come with an os disk or any disks at all. i cant format the drive because it wont let me.

i have no experience with this, as ive had 1 computer for about 4 years and havent had to do this.

so how would i go about doing this? im returning it in about 1/2 hr so i need some quick help

so far what i did was set all system defaults in the startup by pressing f2, and creating a new user account and deleteing mine, including all files, but we all know that the files are still on the computer.

    thanks in advance

It should have a restore partition. Use that to reformat/reinstall Windows.

You can use the restore DVD or partition. Or just nuke it completely with DBAN and not have to worry about anything.

There used to be a program that thoroughly deleted empty space (wrote 0's), but I don't recall the name of the program.

OP: You can use Eraser to bury all the data (Important/Personal info)

    del \ /s /q /f (Done in cmd obviously)

s - delete specified files from all subdirectories
    q - quiet mode
    f - force delete of read-only files
\ - I guess that is for deleting all, from the current drive, for e.g. C:\*

    :p
