The biggest disadvantage of firefox is it has to be installed in program files. Potrable firefox can be installed anywhere. Portable firefox is faster than regular firefox and if it gets hacked the whole folder can be dropped in the trash bin. You can have as many portable firefoxes as you want each with it's own set of addons but only one can be run at a time. Portable firefox fixes the biggest security hole in regular firefox. When a file is deleted from the scrapbook addon and the file is cleaned with ccleaner remanents of the file can be recovered with recuva. In fact I deleted an administrator account that was giving me trouble and it resulted in 28000 files that was recovered with recuvah almost all of these were from firefox scrapbook. With portable firefox the whole file can be erased. For the best security be sure to install your scrapbook file within the portable firefox folder. If you need to delete portable firefox the scrapbook folder can be temporaly placed on the desktop and be replaced in the new portable firefox. If you must delete a scrapbook file it is best to delete the file directly from the scrapbook folder.

the whole recuva thing is wrong. every file normally deleted can get recovered with recuva if it's not over written, portable firefox or not. that's not a security hole btw.

and portable firefox is not faster to start. at least here, the ordinary installed firefox starts faster, as it gets prefetched by superfetch.

but other than that, i like portable firefox. i run it sometimes side by side with ordinary firefox to test certain stuff out.

A similar thing can be done with OperaUSB.

And if you're paranoid you could copy this version on a RAMDisk, deactivate or move the cache folder to the RAMDisk, save an image of this RAMDisk once, and then deactivate the option to save the RAMDisk at the shut down. Now each time you shut down your PC all your data get lost, not recoverable!, and with your next boot up you have your original RAMDisk back, with a super clean version of OperaUSB or portable Firefox.

How do you do that? I have Firefox portable on a USB and I can only run one at a time.

While this is an interesting post - it is written like an advertisment - have you got any affiliation with Firefox??

Actually, one can copy the whole working Mozilla (Firefox) folder onto an USB stick and it will work just fine. It might create some working folders on the local drive, but one can remove them afterward.

    cheers ...

I'm not affiated with firefox or portable firefox. I also use xerobank it is built around firefox it can be a real pain sometimes you have to use taskmanager to kill the tor process before the computer will turn off.

So there is zero downsides to simply using the portable version? Does it save bookmarks and everything in the same way and take pop up blocker etc?

If there are no downsides why would they not get rid of the installed version (other then it may be easier to set it up for the default browser)?
