I got my free Win7 Ultimate copy today from the New Efficiency event, but they only gave out 32-bit discs. I attempted to upgrade and it says I cannot. I saw some guy on slickdeals claiming that an upgrade can be done to Win7 64 from Vista 64 with the 32-bit disc.
I'm downloading a 64-bit torrent as we speak, however, I'm having issues with my DSL today and getting really slow speeds.
Is it possible to perform the upgrade somehow?

You need a 64-bit disc to upgrade (custom install) from 32-bit to 64-bit. Downloading Windows from torrents is against forum rules.
-
actually im going from VISTA 64 to WIN7 64 .. and i dont think it's considered a custom install. i just wanted the upgrade over my current system.
one guy said it was possible. he's probably just a moron. -
a clean install (or custom) is when you delete your hard drive and do a fresh a clean install without any os on the hard drive.
To do a clean install you need a retail version of Windows 7 or depending on which version your coming from, you might be able to do a clean install with a upgrade dvd. -
you're missing the question...
with a 32-bit Win7 disc is it possible to move from Vista 64 to Win7 64? as an UPGRADE -
Every version of Windows 7 except Starter should come with the option to install the 32 or 64 bit edition. There aren't separate packages like there was with Vista. Unless this event isn't giving out retail packages of Windows 7 and is limiting the user's option to install the 64 bit version, there's no reason it shouldn't' work to install the 64 bit version.

If the disc only has 32bit binaries, would you expect it could be capable of upgrading a 64bit system with 64bit binaries?
No...
If the Win7 disc has both 32bit and 64bit, that is a different story. But from what I can tell, Microsoft is releasing different DVDs for each version of W7 as well as each type of version (32, 64). So right now it does not sound like a disc would have both 32bit and 64bit installed. -
That's possible. It's possible that each version comes with two discs, one with the 32 and 64 bit on it. But I do know for sure that with each package (besides Starter) you can install the 32 or 64 bit version.
Description from Amazon:
Windows 7 Home Premium (includes 32-bit & 64-bit versions) makes it easy to create a home network and share all of your favorite photos, videos, and music--you can even watch, pause, rewind, and record TV -
pop in the upgrade dvd and see if you see the source code for 32 or 64 bit...
explore the dvd -
It is possible to move to Win 7 32-bit... if you're interested. If not, then you'll have to stick with what you've got.
But, if at some point you find or borrow a 64-bit Win 7 disc, you can probably use that in conjunction with the license key you got with the 32-bit disc. -
as said above...simply borrow or download a win7 64 install and use the 32bit key they are the same and the key will work with 64 also. otherwise no you can not the disc does not have both on it.
-
It came with two disc, one for 32 bit and the other 64bit. However, the key provided is the same. So, the key identifies the version of win 7 (Ultimate, Home Premium, etc.), but not whether it is 32 or 64 bit. -
You can download the 64 bit disc from the thread in my sig (legal, direct, not a torrent), its not possible with a 32 bit disc
possible to UPGRADE from Vista64 to Win7-64 using 32-bit disc??
