What operating system is installed and whats the maker and model number of the laptop ?
You should be able to create a power plan you want to use, in power options. Theres also default balanced,High performance, and Power saver.
Here is a thread about this :

I've got this same issue with my Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook 530U3C with Windows 7/8.1 but the thing automatically sets to power saving mode on battery power.. It's bloody irritating!

The assuming, if it uses the Samsung software, will do that. There may be options in the power manager to help ubt you will need to go there or start selectively removing software so that the stock power management handles it and then do the stock mods/settings.

Yes. These posters need to go into the OEM-provided applications and set the power plans there. For Sammies the application is called "Samsung Easy Settings", I believe. Just start typing Samsung in the Search Box, and you should find the application you need. My usual disclaimer applies: If this is Windows 8.x, then I don't know.
power plan automatically sets to high performance
