Anyone know when Nvidia is going to support powermizer on windows vista for their notebook gpu's? My 6-cell combined with windows aero is absolutely destroying my battery life. Thanks.

Powermizer is supported in Vista. The only thing Nvidia removed is the ability to control it. It should still be undervolting/clocking your GPU silently in the background.

Oh cool. Thanks. Do you know if Nvidia has powermizer meter downloadable anywhere?

I use the Nvidia nTune software...
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/sysutility.html

It will display the GPU clock speed in real time as well as the temps for the GPU/chipset.

Sorry to bring this old thread from the dead. Does anyone know of an explicit way to create explicitly controlled GPU power profiles in Vista? Some tweak to enable powermizer or something similar. I know that it does it in the background (on the basis of what it changes frequencies, I don't quite understand though...)

The reason being, I have the feeling that the lower frequencies step is actually quite high, and I could get a good battery boost if I could make them lower (+ a decrease in temps). Here is a screenshot of Riva Tuner, showing the GPU on the "default" power saving profile (most of the time) and on the high performance profile (the "bump" in the middle).

As shown, the power saving profile has quite fast clocks. I feel it corresponds to the "Balanced" profile in the XP PowerMizer options. I would like to get access to the "Power Saving" profile.

I would like something that is able to define profiles, and not having to change frequencies explicitly in RivaTuner all the time (which is also buggy from what I hear).

Edit: I checked in XP and the Power Saving clocks are roughly a quarter of the HighPerformance (on a different notebook and GPU mind you), while the Balanced are roughly half. Which means my theory above is likely true.

    Thanks.
