Hello, I have a hp dv2000t with windows vista premiem on it. For some reason my computer is messed up and when i log into window i get a error saying that explorer.exe cannot run.
So i figured i would install a clean copy of xp since i never liked vista anyway. When I try to install xp, after the installer initially loads the hardware, i get the blue screen of death. The blue screen occur just a little bit after the xp cd loads up, right after the computer scanned the hardware. Once it says loading windows the blue screen comes on.
Does anyone know why i cant install a clean cppy of XP.

Disconnect any devices from your laptop. Just use the laptop and power adapter. Try again..if it happens again try with a different windows cd if available? Have you upgraded your ram? This can happen with faulty ram. Try removing 1 stick if you have 2. If this doesn't work you can try downloading a bios update from HP site on another PC and then install.

    If not... replacement time.

Nothing is plugged in and the ram is stock. I also have the latest bios update. I guess i have no choice but to call hp and ask them to fix it.

Generally, the BSOD refers to a device driver conflict/corruption. Go to run and type >eventvwr; check the applications log, it might help.

When your laptop boots up, does it give any beeps? If so, there could be a problem with the BIOS. Could you perhaps take a Photo?
