my friend's inspiron 14 running windows vista worked fine for a month but now when we use wifi to surf the net, internet explorer, mozilla firefox n chrome are not working somehow, nomatter what site we try to open,it always displays a blank page...although wifi is working properly as skype and gtalk are working properly!!

what can we do to rectify the problem?? Is it a problem of a virus or something else??

run a spyware scan. Is DNS service running? Can you ping a website? if you can, can you get to that website by IP?

I think I said it in the other thread as well...

How do you access the internet?

We had a Belkin router that stopped serving websites - ICQ an MSN worked though.
And you could access a website via its IP address.

    Aha.
Skype - is only Skype woking on your friends laptop or do webpages load?

If Webpages don't load either on other computers then its the router.

If webpages only do not load on your computer its your laptop.

What anti virus sftware/suite do you run?

Hmm - what new anti virus suite?
And did you do any virus scanning?

I'm just wondering if your anti virus suite may have been too agressive - I know Youtube had problems with KIS' highest seettings for web security... (don't know if it still has)

It would be nice if you could post some details :)

Also, if you do suspect malware - give your computer a scan with Malwarebytes - its an on demand scanner, so you can leave it installed for later too :) (the free version is enough)
