i am running windows vista premium on my hp laptop and the clock has a problem. when i use the laptop at home, i take the battery out and plug in the power. but after i shut it down (or hibernate) and pull the plug, the clock does not keep on running. when i turn the computer back on, the time is always wrong. if i leave the battery in, this doesn't happen. is there a problem with my laptop or is there an update i need to do? thanks.

Thats odd. Just today, the time on my notebook was also wrong. I had to change it twice already since installing sp1rc...hmm...

anyone know what's wrong with my laptop? its just really annoying to have to sync it everytime.

This sounds like a case of a dying or weak cmos battery (flat cell battery on the motherboard). This battery is used to keep the time and date on a PC even when no power is available from conventional sources (plug or battery). This would explain why it doesn't happen when you leave the battery in as it is drawing power from it to keep the clock in sync.
If your notebook is still under warranty then use the warranty to get the battery changed. -

How is your time incorrect? Does it always reset back to the same time? Does it revert back in the BIOS as well or just in windows?
If the time changes in BIOS as well as windows, then it has to be your CMOS battery. CMOS batteries are very cheap to get and replacing them on a laptop shouldn't be that bad (only speaking from experience from Dell and Lenovo laptops). -
