The problem I'm having with my creative Xfi notebook is that my system is a dell c-840 latitude and the card is a expresscard 34 device and the dell has pcmcia slots... so i bought a pcmcia/expresscard adapter.. i guess its supposed to go thru the usb bus... the very first time i installed it windows xp pro recognized the device and installed ok.. then i was trying the wireless receiver feature and it crashed so i uninstalled it to reinstall but now every time it won't recognize the device... and since it doesn't recognize the device it wont let me install the software or drivers because it says no creative products found on the system...it recognizes the adapter ok but not the x-fi device.... windows device manager has a yellow flag on the unkown usb device and says windows had a problem with it .. it's not working properly..i had a similar prob after removing the motherboard for a ac jack repair with both cd drives no longer being recognized and i found a tip from someone on here about editing the registry and the fix worked is this the same problem here with the x-fi device?? any advise i sure could use..... i'm out the 80 bucks for the x-fi and the 50 bucks for the adapter at this point..i have sent several emals to creative tech support and they are clueless about any help...

What wireless reciever feature?
And if you had the card installed before - that's how it sounds - how did you do that? -
it came with a wireless receiver that you can connect to a stereo system and then your computer audio files can play from the laptop X-Fi sound card wirelessly to the receiver and the stereo system... the first time i installed it.. i plugged in the expresscard adapter then the X-Fi into that and windows recognized the device and it installed ok... only after i tried using the wireless feature it started freezing up and not working properly so i uninstalled the software and the device then tried to reinstall it and now windows won't recognize the device at all

Are you sure the wireless reciever will work with the card?
From what I understand the reciever is part of the laptop/plugged into the laptop.
The X-Fi is plugged into the laptop seperately.
As far as I know the X-Fi will only play via its output ports and the reciever will only work with the internal card... but I may be getting it wrong.
Have you got a product link?
(There are several X-Fi cards) -
yes the receiver was working for a short time before the problems... the receiver is a small device that sits somewhere near a stereo ... the x-fi notebook card is a wireless transmitter to the receiver...
here is links to the products...
the x-fi notebook...

and the receiver..

and this is the adapter that i use for the x-fi notebook since the dell c840 doesn't have expresscard slots....

OK
Now I know what you aretalking about
So obviouslyit should work.
You said you manually unistalled the driver - I suspect there could be bits left of it.
Not sure how you can best get rid of them.
I don't want to go and recommend messing about with system files and the registry...
But if the card is registered as an unknown device in Device Manager - you should be able to reinstal the software... -
no it wont let me install the software... it says cant install no creative products on the system....it is listed as a unknown device but it is also listed as windows has a problem with this device it may not be working properly... since it seems like the same problem i had when my cd drives stopped being recognized by the OS.... i followed instructions in an old posting on the board about editing the registry and the fix worked... not being a expert on the registry i don't want to do anything to it unless someone who knows better recommends it..
-
OK - well, for a registry fix - I can't help with that, but I'll ask a mod to have this thread moved - either to the OS subforum or hardware.
-
thanks maybe that will help moving the thread
-
I noticed that nobody has replied since this thread was moved.. is this the right forum for this problem?? I would be very grateful for any advice..... thank you..

should this thread be in the hardware sub forum??
