    problem with vista ultimate

    i installed a fresh copy of vista ultimate sp1 today on my laptop which shipped with vista home premium. i am getting these weired things sometimes i see 6 or 7 split screens on my display and sometimes display goes blank.
    i have installed nvidia driver,my wifi driver, and run windows update.

    am i missing something important to install besides the above?

    help me guys...

    How about uninstalling the nVidia diver, and let Vista picks it up by itself and see. You can always update the gpu driver again afterward.

    i tired that but didnt worked.
    as the vista ultimate didnt came with my laptop ,
    i brought it separately.
    any more guesses?

    what all do you recommened i have installed GPU , WIFI driver touchpad,quick launch etc

    I would always go with the chipset drivers, first and foremost. Then review your Bios version, see if it is uptodate.

    Sounds like it might also possibly be the GPU beginning to fail.

    i didnt installed the chipset driver but there seems to be no problem when i see the device manager, the only driver not installed is my fingerprint reader.
    i can see the intel ICH8 family pci express root "some port numbers" under the system devices. is that mean that i dont need to install any more chip set driver?

    Uh, maybe you'd be better off going back to square one and doing this installation all over again. You need to have the chipset drivers installed, and right now you're probably running on the one-size-fits-all default drivers that are included with .Windows and which, as you now know, are not the most proficient drivers in the world. Your OEM-specific chipset drivers should be the first set of drivers you install.
