hi all, listen, recently I had some problems with my Toshiba Tecra M5, It all started with the Alt+tab giving me a BSOD, apparently it was driver problems so I updated the drivers using diver max, and then randomly It got awfully slow and sometimes gave me BSOD at random after logging in.

I was working on Safemode for a while and some people told me that if I did a "repair install" of windows then the problem could be corrected (returning the drivers to the default) (I tried updating from my drivers recovery cd but couldn't acces it  )

I also ran "system restore" without any luck. (same condition with CCleaner)

Ok enough talk, the problem is that I Don't have a win XP por sp2 CD, I only have a Win XP Pro SP2 Update Cd (or legalization cd) when I run it it runs fine until I reboot the pc, the Installation screen apears (with "39 minutes left") then after 2 hours I get progress (37 min left) then while "installing network" it completly stops (for over 6 hours and the bar dosen't move 1 mm)
the HDD is not active ether.

do I have to do this same procedure with a Win XP CD?
is there a way I can keep starting in safemode untill I get the apropiate CD?
if I connect this HDD as a slave to another PC I should be able to back up my info right?
    sorry for this noob question.
    I hope someone can help

I'd check all your stuff for defects. Run some programs to test the health of the drive, inspect your XP cd for scratches, and memtest couldn't hurt either (although may not help :D). One of the two may have some damage.

Yes, if you plug the drive into another computer you should be able to back it up.
