Hi,
I bought a notebook without OS an installed Win 8 in UEFI mode. Now I want to get it back to factory state, so I can send it back. So I did a secure erase and wiped the SSD using the "drive erase utility" from Lenovo. When I boot now, I get the following message: "pxe-e61:media test failure check cable".
What did I do wrong? Is it because there's no partition on the SSD?

Please help guys, if I could find the solution via Google I wouldn't have asked. -
Possibility is since you did a SE you have not yet initialized the drive so it may be hitting the DVD and with no media there it is giving a failure.

Have a look in the bios is it spotting your ssd, if it is then see if you can get a recovery dvd from your manufacture if you dont already have an windows and an drivers dvd of your own.
If your ssd cannot be seen by the bios try removing and re-installing it, or remove the notebook battery and hold the power button down for 20-30 seconds and then see if the ssd can be seen.

For the record, this is a totally benign dialogue. All it's telling you is that the computer can't find an OS, so it's trying to PXE boot off the ethernet adapter to get an OS that way, and it can't. (I doubt you have a PXE server set up)
If you are sending back a computer with NO OS on it, this is exactly what you should be seeing.namaiki likes this.
