i live with a room mate that owns office and i remember it saying on the box that it can only be installed on 3(couldve been 4) computers on the same network. we're on our own little home network but i want to reformat my computer, will i still be able to install it ? i mean since it can only be installed so many times to a network will me reinstalling it again use up another install?

if it is smart enough, it will recogonize the hard ware is the exact same and wont use an install. and if it does, you could talk to microsoft about it to try to get it back.
plus, it prolly scans the network to see how many active copies are running, and prolly as long as you don't exceed (have running) the 3 or 4 limit, then you are prolly fine. -
thanx, thats what i was thinking

Reformatting your computer will almost certainly count as a new install. Microsoft intends software to be sold so that you have one copy of the software for one machine. Each copy of the software, depending on which edition it is, will come with 2-4 installs (unless it's a licensed copy), so that you can format, get a new hdd, or whatever. At least that is my understanding.

the thing with that is, it still is the same computer and the only (if single license) computer it is on. So ms has to activate it b/c you are still within the license agreement.
