ok..so i know that you can close the lid, and have my account log off, but is there a way for it to fast switch users? like, if i close the lid, it will go the welcome screen (with all the accounts), and i can click my name and log in? i ask this, because when it goes into stand by, it cuts off almost everything (ie- downloads, connection, and some programs). so is it possible to go into quick switch?

I don't think so, it only goes hibernate, shut down, standby and sleep if you close the lid. You probrably have to do it manually, logging out.

However, I do believe there is either a program for this, that after a certain period of time, it will go to the login screen, while your login is still on.

Why don't you just set it to "do nothing"? Everything will keep running, only the monitor will turn off.

well, i just wanted a quick way to log off, without actually logging off. haha. like, if a room mate comes in, and i dont want them to see something, then i can quickly shut the lid. by the time they can open, it will be at the login screen, and they will need my password

Are you looking at bad things. ;)

What laptop do you have? My Compaq has a button for locking my computer. I just have to press Fn+"a little lock symbol". That would be one idea.

I am not sure if there are any other ways to do this but that is my suggestion.

a quick "windows key + L" will do the trick, takes you less time than to close your lid

also... you can set the screen saver to "prompt for password" when it comes out--you'll be right at the screen you want. Useful not exactly for your situation, but if you will be leaving the laptop unattended...

It just goes to the welcome screen just as if you were to click start>logoff>switch user.
