Im currently using window firewall, its that true if I download another different firewall, the window one will automatically disable by the new one?
you can only use one firewall????![]()

yes, there can be conflicts if you use more than one firewall. You should disable the other one if you do decide to use a different one.

And the Widows firewall pretty much sucks. You can disable it in Security Option in Control Panel.

it was giving me BSOD's. -

Check out Comodo Firewall. Lifetime FREE service, and PC Magazine rated it the best free firewall available today.
Also, they said it was very comparable to paid firewalls!

Actually the Windows Firewall is quiet good, don't know where you got that it sucks. It does not offer outbound protection, but in my view that is worthless. If the outbound gets triggered by a virus (which it rarely does) you are already screwed. You never get infected with just one, if yoju are infected odds are there are several and you will never be able to find or rid yourself. As far as inbound a router coupled with the Windows firewall will give you all the protection you need as far as firewall are concerned. I would not spend money or system resources on a software firewall.

I would want firewall protection both ways.

Right, but most people will never understand what the outbound traffic is. Nearly every program these days use the internet in some fashion. What happens is ZoneAlarm or whatever you use starts telling you program after program and "win32server" and this that and the other and people just start clicking allow to get rid of the pop up boxes. I see very little value. I understand why they make some people feel more secure, but in the end you really are not. Not to mention most viruses/spyware/etc are aware enough to get around outbound detection. It is easy for them to just have ZoneAlarm ignore them.
What I guess I am saying is to not get infected in the first place, and software firewalls don't help you with that. They MAY tell you something is calling out, but you will never know what it is (they don't call themselves "nasty hacker virus A") and how to remove it or if it is even malicious. I think they add more complexity than they are worth and usually end up causing problems.
However, if you are dead set on getting a different software firewall I would get Kerrio's -
Anybody that would spend good money on a software firewall should know what they are clicking when they allow/disallow programs. I HOPE that people don't just click ALLOW for everything (that totally defeats the purpose).
I have ZoneAlarm Pro, and it is really extensive. I am outrageously picky when it comes to software accessing the internet (college campus). Plus, the OS firewall works very well. -
Good thoughts, I totally agreed.
I tried zonealarm, comodo, and Kerrio today. then I eventually switched back to window firewall. This might seems like a dumb move, but i don't like to get bother everytime I open a new wedpage. I don't even know what some of the firewall pop-ups were, allow or not? I mean what should I do? maybe I just use a few more antivirus and spyware instead....
question about window firewall
