I have a novice question regarding dual boot.

Say, i have xp on one partition and vista on another partition. Now if i load xp and install some software, would i be able to access it from vista ..and vice versa?

Also will the files (like .doc) on xp partition be accesible if i boot vista ?

You would still have to install the software in Vista to be able to use it Vista though the files would be accessible in either partition.

Thanks for the quick reply Zaz ... so i will have to install antivirus and firewalls for both vista and xp ... wouldn't there be a problem registering these products twice with the same key ?

You will be able to access your files on Vista while in XP, and vice versa, but if you install software in XP, I dont think you will see the same thing in Vista, and this is the same as if you installed software in Vista...you wont see the same thing in XP.

It is highly recommended that you make XP partition hidden while Vista is running and vice versa. If something is wrong with one OS, the other OS at the other partition could be affected too. If you want to share documents for both OS, you can create a 3rd partition that should be made visible for both OS.

ZoneAlarm and AVG are free and work well.

    Care to elaborate on that?

I don't disagree with the 3rd partition idea, as an organizational technique, but just what "problem" with one install will impact the other install.

When in Vista, as far as Vista is concerned, the XP volume is simply storage. When in XP, as far as XP is concerned, the Vista volume is simply storage.
