So i can get my computer set up with programs and music or whatever files I want, then burn a dvd of it with norton ghost and use that as my recovery disk? so i just put it in and it formats and installs back to whats on that dvd? Operating system included. Thanks

Basically yes, you have some options, but you can make an image copy of the hard drive.
Norton seems okay, others also recommend Acronis Trueimage, however I've found quite a lot of negative reviews of that, so haven't tried it (although it seems to be a better designed program, more of a windows type program). -
my hd is more then what will fit on 1 dvd. so i use to and just put them in one afetr the other while restoreing? can i use dual layer dvds?
-
You can only use dual layer if your cd/dvd drive supports that. You should be able to just insert one disc after the other, but I have never used Norton. I use Nero.
-
Yes you can use multiple disks, if it's more than one disk, it just keeps asking for more.
SouthernGirl, not sure you can use Nero to do a "backup" that you can just restore to a completely empty drive, if you can please post how because I have Nero and would be interested in trying it (I can backup data, but not complete system). -
do i have to clear the partition before i put the restore disk in that i made with norton. wont putting that in automatically format the partition then restore it by itself?
-
Depending on the way you use it, Norton can, create the partitions for you (quite often used when notebook manufacturers use Norton to create restore disks, this way it restores exactly as they intended with partitions and everything) it can also be used to restore onto a partition (it will ALWAYS wipe out everything that did exist in the partition if I recall).
-
The way I use Nero is just to do a back up. I know it isn't the same as Norton - I think with nero you have to have Nero installed in order to restore your files.

ive been hearing that when you write the image to your dvd to make a bootable copy, it asks u for a floppy disk with bootable drivers on it. is this true? my laptop doesnt have a floppy drive.
-
If I recall (been a while since I made one) you don't need a floppy, it will automatically install PC-Dos, alternatively you can play around with floppy emulators and create a virtual floppy disk with MS-Dos and it will use that too.

it appear that it would copy it all....OS and eerything....is that a bootable disk....or should i get norton ghost for a bootable disk
