title says it all, i have no idea why my laptop is doing this. the display freezes, no response from anything, i had to shut it down by holding the power button.
this happened like 4 times in 30mins. i never had this prob before.
    any suggestions for troubleshooting?

edit:just froze again, i'm in safe mode now. let's see how long it will last this time :p
edit2:safe mode doesn't work. Still locks down. It seems to freeze one or two minutes after start up. Using my iPod touch now :p

Is there any way you can check the temperatures of your CPU and GPU, if you have the time to download and run a program? It may be the GPU. The 8600M GS is a known failure card.

Does the case feel hot to the touch?

Thanks for the reply. CPU never goes above 70, gpu stays around 85 during heavy gaming. So I don't think it's a temp prob. It doesn't even have time to heat up lol.

You never know, it's possible. I remember once I was helping someone who had their desktop not booting, or turning on for about 5 seconds, and then turning back off. Someone asked him to take a picture of his motherboard, and guess what it was. He had no heatsink installed. You could just see has processor on the motherboard with absolutely no cooling at all.

Anyway, how long has it been since you have seen the temperatures. Dust may have gotten in the case.

Also, have you tried reformatting. I know that's usually a last resort method, but it may be a Windows problem.

I also have this problem but it doesn't occur to me as often as it do to you.
My laptop just freeze and I can't do nothing about it... it happens like once a month though, so it's not really a major problem for me but it's driving me nuts.

my laptop also freezes sometimes.. i has always done that.. i concluded after bunch of testing and researching that it was Speedstep (cpu downclocking) causing it so i forced it to run at full speed at all times and apparently it works..

might not be the same issue with you at all though but if you guys use XP, just TRY and set it the power mode to "Always on".. just give it a shot

Are you using RMClock to undervolt by any chance? It gave me the same problem - just a suggestion.
