i hav an HP g42-230US turion II.

i noticed that under XP the realtek HD audio sounds inferior compared to windows 7.

has realtek sort of abandoned XP driver developement ? the interface under windows 7 is better and the audio is clearly better under windows 7.

thanks for any help on this. i like XP but i'll use windows 7 on this laptop if i have to.

I personally can't speak for realtek, but in most cases I would say yes, to a certain degree. A company is going to address the needs of a current/more popular operating system before addressing an older one. I wouldn't say that they completely abandon it, as issues still arise and many people still use Xp.

You have to know Microsoft changed the Driver architecture during the transition from Xp to Vista, so you can be sure the drivers are coded differently hence it will not be identical.

^That and XP has no native support for HD Audio. It has to be added in with a patch. XP should be used only on older hardware, and in that case, it's hardware probably has driver maturity down pat, so there is no need for further updates.
