My sister was using her account on my vista laptop and she was searching for her videos. She found some that she thought were hers but when she deleted them, it turns out that they came from my account. How can I get these files back?

Try some free recovery tool like Recuva?

Did she delete, delete them - that is, did she empty the recycle bin after she deleted them? Did you? If not, then they may still be in the recycle bin. If they're not (because the recycle bin has already been emptied), then a data recovery app like recuva (which is quite good) is about the only remedy you have.

I don't know. Either way I cannot access her account because she's acting like a **** and we both have admin rights on our accounts.

The files recovery has nothing to do with whom account the files belong to - unless you both passwork-locked them :D

    cheers ...

Well, if they're not showing up in your recycle bin (i.e., the one for your account), then try using the Recuva app - it's freeware and there's a link to it under the Free Windows Software stickie. I've used it before, and if the file hasn't been badly overwritten, it should be able to recover it.

Also, since it's your computer, you should be able to log in under the named "Administrator" account (I believe you should have been prompted to provide a password for it when you set up the computer originally); that is the Ur-admin account, if you will, and should allow you to trump whatever admin rights the other user accounts have.

I downloaded it a while ago but whenever I try to find stuff it says "no files could be found" or a similar message of that type.

That's a little odd - suggests that either the files were not in fact deleted (perhaps she turned them into hidden files?) or else they have been so thoroughly overwritten that nothing can be found. I believe there are several other data recovery apps listed in the stickie - have you tried any of the others?

Try PC Inspector file recovery.. In case the files were not fragmented, and haven't been overwritten, it works quite well... As for admin rights on accounts, you can reset her password, if you are that desperate.. Of course, what that would lead to, I take no responsibility for.. :|
