I have a toshiba satelite. In one month I am going to college and really want a new computer. But as some of you may know, its not about what you want, its what you have.

I have been having minor problems with my laptop and have decided to reformat. Problem. I do not have the boot disk. My laptop came from QVC, and did not include anything but the laptop, power cord, basically, the essentials.

So what are my options? I have never reformated, and on top of that, I have nothing to do it with ... Can anyone help?

    Toshiba satelite A135
    Vista home premium
    Genuine intel(R) cpu T2080 @ 1.73 GHz
    2038 mb ram
    32-bit os

You have all that you need for a format of your notebook.
It all depends on what you want with your system you can buy a copy of windows costing a lot or find one on the web.
You can find all the drivers you need at the web site of toshiba but do it before you format your drive.
Some times you need the right drivers to get your lan working and without it you can't access the web to retrieve them.
And think about what you want keep vista or get back to xp, i bought my lap last Wednesday and formatted it right away back from vista to xp, a Toshiba Satelitte L350 and it runs like a dream.

if you have a sticker with a MS serial number on the bottom of your laptop, buying a new copy of windows is a waste of money. make sure you have all you driver on an external media (or different partition of the hdd), borrow a copy of the same os you have install (vista home premium x86 for example) and install it with your serial, point to drivers if needed, update anything you like and you're done.

If you Google a bit you may be able to download your version of Windows and burn it to a disc for reinstall with your same key.

Check the Microsoft site first, they've got Windows downloads hidden around in there somewhere, you just need a disc and a key.

Of course if your main board can boot from a flash you can do that, but without a windows boot cd you have nothing to boot.

And about the torrent i would not talk about that if i where you, the rules of this board state no discussion of illegal software.

Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed. There is a zero tolerance policy for illegal activity being discussed.

So we can't help you with that.

In that case, forget what I just said.

So can I just borrow the cd from a friend?
Does it have to be the exact same one that I have right? Vista home premium...

Yes your code is for a home premium version so you need that version.
And borrow a cd from your friend that is no problem the installation disk are all the same, just put in your own code and everything should go fine.
But don't forget to download your drivers first and set them a side some where.
