I have seen countless ads for reg cure on the internet..everything seems to lead to them. the guys at the geek squad swear by JV16 or registry mechanic. Are there any that are safe and where does one find a non bias review of these things?I am looking for a safe cleaner that doesn't trash or remove dlls as I have heard of disasters. Thanks for any help I can get.I am running winows xp media edition.

I have two that I use:
CCleaner cleans up both files and the registry, is fairly customizable, and is free.
Macecraft has JV16, RegSupreme Pro, and RegSupreme. RegSupreme only does the registry, but is cheaper than the other two. RegSupreme in aggressive mode finds things in the registry that CCleaner does not.
BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE REGISTRY - KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING
I recently saw another post elsewhere on registry cleaners here it is. -
I also use RegSupreme

Beware of many registry cleaners out there, there is a bunch of cleaners out there that is made by the same company, they have gone as far as making up their own reviews and placing their own made up fake awards and ratings, they are poorly made and very inacurate, look for a cleaner that will tell you the price up front and does not force you to download a trial to get more info about the product, on the product site, go to their contacts or company info, you will notice some of these registry cleaner sites will only have email contact, there are no phone #s or company locations, I did a WHOIS search on some of these reg clean sites and came up with little or bogus info registration, Registry Mechanic has been around along time and are very reputable but they are taking their time comming up with a vista 64 version.

I use both Ccleaner and Advanced System Optimzer and I higly recommend ASO. It has many cool features and scans really fast.
-
i uses tuneup utilities 2007, for registry cleanup and defrag, among its many useful features.

I use ccleaner and tuneup - used tuneup for a while so wanted to check out ccleaner. Tuneup is really good, especially the delete shredder options to permamnently delete files.

I never use registry cleaners, unless I have a specific reason to do so (which is rare).
If I want to get rid of specific keys, I delete them with regedit.
Otherwise, you're better off just leaving the registry alone.
Cleaning up 0.05% of the registry keys doesn't really make a difference on performance or anything else anyway, so why bother? You risk deleting something that shouldn't be deleted. -

The safe cleaner. I found is PC Optimizer Pro. I am using this from the past 3 years and never found any problems or disasters like deletion of dlls or any important system files. You can try this. I never heard or read this kind of disasters from people who are using this because I have done some research before purchasing it.

Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
try advanced windows care , I have been using it for over 5 years and 0 problems also the basic version is free!

CCleaner has never given me any problems, it can check your registry and clean temp files but like it has been said before, cleaning 21 obsolete entries from a total of 75000 (for instance) won't make your notebook lightning fast all of a sudden. So don't expect miracles

+1 for CCleaner. Safe and easy to use

i always advise my clients not to download and install such a applications because they end up messing with the computer's registry. try to do it manually by going to regedit.exe. you have to be careful but if in the registry you see a key named Norton, to give you an example, and you unistalled it last week, well it is safe to delete it in most cases. anway you can always make a backup of your registry. in the main regedit window go to file---export and you will be able to backup your whole registry

if you want an all around performance enhancer then go with advanced system optimizer. I love that software. Not only does it keep my compy running im optimal condition, but it has an amazing spyware removal tool. (takes like 10 min to load and 3 hours to scan).
Personally, it's on my top 3 piece of software along with Firefox and Eset's Nod32. -
Tuneup Utilities 2008
and
CCcleaner -
Most people should stay away from Registry "cleaners." They usually suck... and they are not needed.
If you don't understand what a Registry key or value does, leave it alone.

You clearly do understand... so take the next step: Write a few batch files. 'Reg.exe' is your friend.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

How does one define a good registry cleaner? I don't think u can!
Either way..when I feel I should do a registry clean up I use RegistryBooster! It seems to do its job. -
