    Outlook?

Get a good calendaring program. You may consider something like Sunbird.

I find that my PDA is better for reminders, task management, and calendaring than any desktop I have ever used since I can carry it with me everywhere.

I had a cool little freeware app once called xdesk95 that would do exactly that kind of thing.

I have a program that runs on both my PDA and my PC called ListPro that can be enabled for alarms, but I have not used that feature of it since the ToDo application on my PDA works for me. However, it is a great list management application.

If you happen to rely on Firefox for your browsing, I highly recommend the free add-on called Reminderfox.
