For just file access, simple answer is \\yourmachine

For more complete answer, you need to tell what the OS are in both machines, are they in same network or do you wish to have remote connection over internet. There is so many different ways to do those you want.

You can download Teamviewer. It is free and useful. You only need to have the id and password to that computer.

My machine is Win7 premium and the other is XP

Both are connected to the internet but not the same network (possibly the same network, but for now let's assume that they are not connected over the same network.

If local you can just turn on remote desktop. For remote networks, for ease of use, try logmein.com. There is much more precise and complicated ways of doing it.
