I have a two part question! (1) Why does my log in always say that I have a email, when I don't? This has been like this for some time.
(2) Some how the minimize and close buttons, are now half the size they use to be? That happened before I lost my IE?
Thanks for Help................![]()

1. XP's logon screen will list the unread mails associated with the user account, that number is taken from all email accounts checked within the last 3 days using Outlook Express, Outlook, Messenger, etc. However, the problem is that it doesn't only count your email accounts, anyone used your login (XP's account) and logged on to their MSN for example, their email counts will also be added to that number.
There are couple of ways to disable or repair it:
- By registry:
.- Start -> Run -> regedit
- Browse to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail - Change the value in MessageExpiryDays to 0.
- By TweakUI:
.
2. For your button size problems, try these instructions. - By registry:
-
I did what you said and I don't have a file "message expires days".
all mine shows or says is:
Default Reg_SZ ( Value not set), next is
Application Reg_SZ mismn ,next is:
Message REG_ DWORD 0X000000001 (1), then last is
Timestamp REG_BINARY 3C 92 66 7a 8a 13 ca 01
I tried to down load the other it wouldn't down load? It said it could not confirm where it was coming from!???? Security risk??
I tried to capture screen but not having any luck will try again tomorrow.
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks for help........... -
Hi dcsbass,
My bad, I forgot to mention, if you don't see MessageExpiryDays in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail, all you have to do is to create it yourself.
In regedit, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail, then on the right window, right click on an empty space, you will see New > pops up, then select DWORD Value, now rename it to MessageExpiryDays. By default, the value should be 0 already, so you don't have to change it. After reboot, the mail count should be disappeared from the logon screen.
For the download, go to this link instead, then scroll down to TweakUI and download it from there.

With TweakUI, you can choose which account to show individually.
No problem, glad it worked out.
