    i have my vista laptop and xp desktop connected through my wireless router . i have disabled password protected sharing in vista and enabled file and printer sharing. i can access desktop files from laptop without any problems. however when i try to access laptop files from desktop. it prompts for the password. why is this happening even if i have disabled password protected sharing ??? is there a way around this as its quite irritating. my network location is private

    I experienced that before. How about saving the password? If not, Here Try this, Taking the ownership of the Folder.

    1. Right click the folder->Security Tab->Advanced->Edit
    2. Select your Username and click the checkbox option->Apply
    3. Click Yes.

    Create identical users on all machines. Share a folder/drive for each user (or create a group and add users to it, and share the folder/drive for that group).
