i just got a new asus laptop to replace my old hp that crapped out on me. i was able to exchange it at best buy for the asus. anyway on the sides of the screen there are these flashing blue lights. are they a warning of some kind?

the laptop is an Asus G71.

I'd be concerned that you didn't read the documentation that came with the laptop.
