I am looking for a basic cpu temp only program that uses the minimum of system resources.

    thanks.

Try NHC it has it both for CPU and HDD.
And it's not a bad program for power management and undervolting either.
I think CoolMon also does this.

Mobilemeter is very simple and plots a graph in a windows (see my Q35 review). It also provides other info including battery wear. It reads the ACPI temperature which is not exactly the same as the CPU core temperature reported software as RMclock. RMclock will also let you undervolt your CPU. Most Core series CPUs undervolt significantly which reduces heat when under load.

Core Temp will do what you are looking for but it only works with Yonah or Merom core based Intel or any AMD K8 processors.

I am sure my temp is 58C what gives!.

    CoreDuo 1.6 T2050 533Mhz.

Sorry, not that I know of. RMclock will show show CPU temperature (and other info) as a tool tip when you point to the icon in the task bar.

The core temperatures tend to be higher, but I am surprised to see a 12C difference. Why your interest in the temperature? Curiousity or are you worried by a hot computer or excessive fan activity?

I really like RM Clock for what you're looking for. Core Temp is another great one that is very simple.

I have recently upgraded my processor and am just keeping an eye on my processor temperature.

my fan only comes on when the temperature reaches 64-65C.

    thanks.

    John.

Good to hear that the CPU upgrade worked.

If the computer temperature feels OK and the amount of fan activity is normal then I don't think there's anything to worry about.

The Intel thermal Analysis Tool has a test mode if you want to see how hot things can get. I think I managed a core temperature of over 90C when the CPU was not undervolted.

I have tried Intel thermal Analysis Tool but every time i run it, I get an blue screen and my laptop reboots?

as i said speedfan and coretemp give me the wrong temp.

I am still looking for an temp monitor for the taskbar, I like mobmeter but is their a way to get it to show the reading on your taskbar.

    thanks

    John.

Sorry, I forgot that you have the Via chipset  I'm sure this is why the TAT doesn't work.
