I'm looking for a simple & lightweight download speed monitor for Vista. I've used a couple of widgets and gadgets but the sidebar takes up too much memory for me....

I use Wireless Network Meter in my sidebar, but it can also be docked on the desktop.

Not sure about a stand alone app. I used to have a couple , but haven't used any of those recently enough to remember what they were.

yeah, I tried that one as well. But after docking to the desktop, the sidebar app still runs, taking over 40MB of memory on my pc....

There is a free download from US Robotics called iBand. It can sit on the desktop or dock on the taskbar. Make sure to turn the option on for showing numberical values because the graphic is rather odd. It is free for download from the USR site.

40MB  WOW!! I'm running 7 items in my sidebar, and I'm only seeing 13,872 KB of use. That's over 26MB difference.
