Unfortunately this looks like a virus or a rootkit my friend. First do a FULL system virus scan and also update your BIOS and drivers.

If it is still slow, then I highly suggest doing a full format of your computer and then reinstall your windows.

You should look into getting the newest product from Microsoft, which is Windows 7! Good luck there!

Your right, I just looked at his posts. Anyway, I think you should update the drivers. Its pretty obvious he doesn't have a virus, because he said he re installed Windows.

we don't know how much ram, how much page space, firmware levels of the machine, boot device order, driver levels, etc, etc. Has his freshly installed XP installation been updated to SP3 and then all of the newer fixes? What else is running in bootup and logon auto-start??

NTFS can benefit with some minor defragging of page space too. The easiest way to do that is to config zero page space, defrag the whole drive, then config the appropriate amount of page space. The built-in XP defrag routine is fine for that.

Just perform all of the usual maintenance you'd do to an OS. Compared most Linuxii and newer MSFT OS versions, XP "out of the box" has all kinds of room for improvement.
