i looked for a thread on this but i couldnt find one for vista. i have a gateway mt3705 running vista home premium and i know my T2250 processor isnt the fastest but should it take over a minute to boot and shutdown? and the one minute to boot is until i see my desktop, not when everything is done loading and ready for use. the day i got it i modified the startup processes to the bare minimum, i didnt touch the services stuff because im not sure whats what in there. when i shutdown i turn off wireless and the only things running are the sidebar, mcafee, and cisco clean access(sometimes). is there anything that can be down to speed this up? i saw the post for UPH Clean it but the OS requirements did not include vista. if anyone has any suggestions i would really appreciate it.

All drivers up to date? Sounds like some sort of problem loading/stopping a driver.

turning off mcafee will probably help a lot

    try it once and see

With UAC, defender, firewallls, etc...using another layer of security is up to you.

In my case, I noticed a faster boot shutting off norton, and using my preferred virus program instead.

Stop the sidebar from loading at startup, that will help also. It's easy to enable after boot and you can create a shortcut and place it in your quick launch toolbar. Then all you have to do is Win Key + # to load it.

    # = quick launch number association

You may experience a faster boot if you set vista to boot without a lot of the effects.

control panel >>> system >>> advanced system settings >>> performance/settings >>> adjust for best performance

See how that goes, then you can go back and select individual effects if you want them.
