is there a software that tells you how long your battery lasts until it dies? as in the overall life of the battery? im not talking about software that tells you how long you have until the battery runs out, im talking about the overall life of the battery, or how many charges it has left before the battery becomes completely useless. is there such a program?

the reason i am asking is because i have had my battery for a year now and it seems to discharge much faster than before, so i called dell to send me a replacement. but i have to send my old battery back. however, i know that dell only sends used items, so if the battery they are sending is used, how will i know that it is better than my current battery?

    THANKS!

Try CPUID HW monitor, under battery it will tell you the designed capacity, the full charge capacity and the current capacity. If the full charge capacity isn't close to the designed capacity then you have a problem.

Depending on how you define "completely useless" the number of useful recharge cycle left varies. Li-ion has infinite recharge cycle.

what i mean by useless is for example, you charge the battery, but when u plug it in ur laptop, it does not even start the laptop.... (this is happened to my other laptop battery)...i mean no juice left.

It says the battery wear is 9.6% after almost a year but I can't tell the difference in battery lifetime. I used the battery almost every day at work, I try to finish all work before battery is down to 20% in 3 to 4 hrs total on and off. Battery is still at 100% after 4 min and CPU cooled off to room temp cause it's dead, just tweaking.

It isn't perfect. I bought my tc4400 this summer and the battery it came with was pretty much useless. Individual cells died, so batterybar would show 0% wear but only 19.000 mWh capacity available. What I had left, was working perfectly. :D

Instead that available capacity out of max. capacity tells much better how well the battery is doing.
